About this pilgrimage

Across the land of the saints

The Greece Essentials pilgrimage gathers the highest places of the Orthodox land into a single week. Athens of the Areopagus where Saint Paul preached, Delphi of the ancient oracle, the great monasteries of Meteora hanging in the air, the royal tombs of Vergina, and Thessaloniki, the City of Saint Demetrios.

You will venerate the wonderworking icons of the Meteora monasteries, hewn into the rock of the Thessalian plain by the desert monks of the fourteenth century. You will pray at the relics of Saint Demetrios in his great basilica, and stand at the harbour of Ouranoupoli looking across to the Holy Mountain from the sea. Mount Athos itself remains closed to women and reserved for monks and the clergy, but its presence on the horizon is the gift this pilgrimage gives.

Each open departure gathers Orthodox Christians from many parishes and cities across the United States and Canada into one company of pilgrims.

Prices are per person in US dollars, for the land pilgrimage, sharing a twin or double room. The single supplement is quoted at booking, and we are glad to match willing pilgrims as roommates where we can. A deposit of $400 per person reserves your place. No payment is taken on the booking form.

Greece is not one shrine. It is a country woven of them. You will not forget the icons that meet you at Meteora.
