The one pilgrimage that no other can be. Holy Week in the Holy City.
The Holy Fire pilgrimage is the one journey that no other can be. Eight days that follow the Lord through the whole of Holy Week in the city where it happened. Lazarus Saturday, Palm Sunday at Bethphage, the Mystical Supper at the Upper Room, the Way of the Cross on Holy Friday, and the descent of the Holy Fire at the Tomb of the Resurrection on Holy Saturday.
You will pray at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where the Patriarchate of Jerusalem keeps the rite of the Holy Fire that has been kept on the same day for fourteen centuries. You will descend into the Grotto of the Nativity, walk the Way of the Cross with the candle of the pilgrim, and stand inside the Church of the Anastasis as the Holy Fire is brought out from the Tomb. The Paschal procession at midnight is the gift this pilgrimage gives that no other can.
This is the single most subscribed pilgrimage in the Orthodox year. Reservations are accepted up to twelve months in advance and seats are limited.
The full day-by-day, with the Orthodox sites at each stop and the photography, is in the downloadable PDF itinerary.

On Holy Saturday the Fire descends inside the Tomb. The Patriarch brings it out for the people. You will not forget the moment your candle is lit.
