Eleven days, with the ascent of Mount Sinai and the burning bush.
The Extended pilgrimage adds the holy mountain of Sinai to the catalog. The Monastery of Saint Catherine, the burning bush of Moses, and the ascent to the place where God spoke to His prophet, made in the tradition that has been kept by Orthodox monks for more than fifteen centuries.
You begin with a long week at the holy places across two bases, three nights in a centrally located four-star hotel beside the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem and four in Jerusalem, with the Holy Sepulchre, the wilderness, and the Jordan. Then the road descends south into the Sinai peninsula, to the monastery hewn into the rock at the foot of the mountain, where the icons of Saint Catherine have survived every century unbroken. Those able will make the night ascent of the mountain, to greet the dawn at the summit chapel of the Prophet Moses.
Each open departure gathers Orthodox Christians from many parishes across the United States and Canada into one company of pilgrims. The Sinai crossing is the gift this pilgrimage gives that no other does.
The full day-by-day, with the Orthodox sites at each stop and the photography, is in the downloadable PDF itinerary.
